Happy Lunar New Year & Valentine’s Day 2010!

Happy Lunar New Year & Happy Valentine’s Day… from NYC!

Once in a while, two holidays fall on the same day… this is the year!  It’s Vday + Lunar New Year (Year of the Tiger)!!!  I was thinking how great it is to be in this city on these 2 particular holidays.. and then I ran into this ad on our way to our Vday dinner :

(insert thought-bubbles over my head!)

Walking around Manhattan it really felt like Valentines Day… passing little floral stands with colorful flowers, resturaunts with yummy Vday menus and decor, and bakeries filled with sweet treats seen easily through the windows. We ran into so many pretty pretty things. Here are a few of them…

the delicious..Magnolia Bakery cupcakes

Magnolia’s Red Velvet Cheesecake

As much as  loove sweets, I LOVE flowers more…………………  🙂

And a photo of my favorite selects.. Anemone (left; white) and Parrot Tulips (right; pink/green).

Towards the evening, we thought since we are asian afterall, and missed the lunar new year festivites at home, we would visit Manhhatan’s Chinatown! Although we ended up arriving in chinatown AFTER the main festivities (dragon parade), we found that store vendors were still open (on a sunday night) and the street patrons were still celebrating .. and in line after line for some good asian grub.  Here are some of the sites we saw!  (it was like a mega celebration aftermath… Mardi Gras + Vday + Lunar New Year, chinatown style. =) )

These are small, medium, and large-sized tubes compressed with confetti.. a string is pulled at the end of the tube to launch the confetti.

Evidence of a happy lunar new year 2010!

Me with festive hanging firecrackers.
