New York Fashion Week 2010!

During my Valentine’s Day getaway to NYC, not only was it a celebration of several holidays (Lunar New Year, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, and Mardi Gras…. it was New York Fashion Week @ Bryant Park also!!!   (Feb. 11-18, 2010).

I wanted to write a separate blog entry for FashionWeek, as it could easily stand on it’s own in length.  Being in NYC the same week as FashionWeek was… LOVELY, as Carrie Brashaw would say.  Even though I didn’t get to go into the tents, it’s exciting just to be on the block of Bryan Park, as this is the LAST year FashionWeek will be held @ Bryan Park

News is that NYC Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, was pressed to find a new location, as there was increasing pressure to move FashionWeek to…… LOS ANGELES!  (wouldn’t that be FAB!)  Although I would love for it to be in LA, I think it belongs in NYC. Some things you just shouldn’t change!

So, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and IMG Fashion announced a new location:  Lincoln Center, which is about 1 mile uptown from Bryant Park.  The Park was a great location as it was in close proximity to NY’s historic fashion center and designers could literally walk their clothes to the tents, but the good thing about Lincoln Center is that it would be able to provide more than 3 runways (which is the limit at Bryant Park) and that Lincoln Center  has one of the largest underground parking garages in the city.   Will more runways allow for more shows to take place at the same time? Will that mean shorter schedules? shorter fashion WEEK?  Or will this be an opportunity to squeeze in more designers?! Hopefully the later!

Here are some photos of the hub took of me enjoying the fashion air outside the tents!

Across the street from the Park… NYC is ready for Sex and The City 2!!!

I'm THE "K" in SignatureK!! I demand to be put back on the tent list! 😉

Since this IS a wedding blog.. I thought I’d post SOME of my favs from the Spring 2010 collections:   (If my hub would go through with it, I would get married over and over again just to wear these dresses!)

Monique Lhuillier - Spring 2010: SOLEIL

Monique Lhuillier - Spring 2010: SUNDAY ROSE

Oscar de la Renda - Spring2010: 12N23

Vera Wang Spring2010 - THE black dress

The following are from Spring 2009, BUT, I really love these dresses so I’m posting them anyway. In the bridal world, a dress from “last season” is really not so bad!  =)

A wedding that BANGS!

Having got bangs myself (and loving it!), I started to notice it more on others; you know, like when you’re with a girlfirend and her baby at the mall, you suddenly notice that everyone has a stroller!).  Well, I started to wonder how a bride with bangs would go about doing her fabulous hair with this style incorporated)… and then I stumbled upon Kelli & Sam’s wedding, featured on Green Wedding Shoes

Rarely do I see a bride with REAL BANGS! I just HAD to blog about it!  (The only other bride I’ve seen with REAL bangs is my fabulous cousin Minh-ha.  She was actually the one that inspired my cut!  Read about Minh-ha & Brian’s wedding here.)  If you think you can’t pull off BANGS (on a daily basis AND for your wedding), consider it again! Or try a photoshop test on yourself =) !  I think hairstyle is one of the funnest fashion statements you can make!  (PLUS, you don’t have to worry about perfect brows when you have bangs!).

Read more of Kelli’s wedding as she describes the fun parts of planning her wedding and some definate DO’s (her big ones:  you don’t have to have a big budget for a fab wedding, so incorporate hand made items (and start early), and hire a REALLY good photographer & videographer to provide a detailed documentary of your day).

Love this picture below (hair, bouquets, hairpieces.. everything!)  (And notice… her Mom had bangs in her wedding photo, way back when! see 3rd photo below)

If you’re a stylish bride who had REAL BANGS for your wedding hair style, send me your photos or leave a comment with a link to it!   I so want to see it! signaturekevents@yahoo.com

Hollywood-inspired Beach-shore Wedding Gala!

Our Wedding
Our Wedding

I hesitate to call this blog entry  “Our Simple Wedding”  (and hence changed it) because it seemed simple, but …. it was work!  From concept to completion, I had fun making our “simple looking” event seem effortless, all the while, DIYing mostly everything.

Before planning our wedding, we chose 3 words in which we wanted our wedding to be and feel like:  FUN, MODERN, OFF-BEAT!   I think we nailed it right on!   Our “Hollywood” theme was a continuation of our OK! Magazine Save-the-Date cards and Movie Poster wedding invitations

Our wedding came and went so fast, even though we had family and friends helping days before and hanging out with them days after.  As a wedding planner and floral designer, I had to resist the urge to keep on top of everything that day.  I was fortunate to have a great crew behind me to carry out Jayson’s and my vision.

We selected an awsome photographer, Taylor Abeel, from Ventana Photography and recieved our digital photos last week.  The detail photos are my fav.. and also the fun ones!  Here are some of my picks to share with you the events of our day:

"I'm Yours" movie script (wedding programs). Programs were half the size of an 8.5" X 11" paper and was about 8 pages .. sounds long, but as guests started reading, it made for a fun read and not long at all!

The script had the format of a real movie script. It starts off with "FADE IN:" and continued with a brief narration of the setting (2002) and how we met.

Scene 2 describes "7 years later" (our wedding day), and describes the ceremony with all the bridal party named out in narration form.

Then the script described that the guests disperse around the Garden Patio after the ceremony (in which they do... !) and describes the Hors D' ouvres available. In this photo above, the bottom part said: BRIAN: What are you goin to order" EDDIE: I think I'm goin to try the Signature Drink Passionfruit Mimosa. BRIAN: You're fruity. =) (we like throwing some humor in there!)

We included some dialog among some of the wedding party about the seating arrangement, as a way of telling the guests where they would sit (Open seating!)

The ending of the script describes guests leaving. One of the bridesmaids say good-bye to me in the script and I remind her of the "Happily-Ever After-Party!

The address for the After Party is provided in the script, and then the script ends! (We did add a page for "Special Thank Yous", and "Credits" in which we listed all vendors involved with our wedding!)

The Guests. I love this picture because I was able to look back at see where everyone was sitting and their reactions.. I would have never remembered this.

Jessica Alba Updo

I searched for a hairdo that would compliment my 2008 Pronovias “Cordoba” dress by Manuel Mota.  If I were to pick my fav female celebrity style, it would be Jessica Alba.  She can pull off a lot of different styles with chic elegance.  I love that she is adventurous with her hair and clothes.  So, I found this picture of an updo she had that I just looove.  I sent it to Molly (from Cheek Couture), my hair and makeup artist to do a TRIAL session.  This is how it came out.

Do you think it meets the mark?!!   Of course, if I had highlights, then you could see the definition of the curls more; but who has time for that! (I wish I did)  For my wedding, Molly tweeked the front a little bit, and I love my day-of hair even more!!!!  AND my DIY birdcage hairpiece for the final touch!

Birdcage veil

sara gabriel - french veil netting

sara gabriel - french veil netting

I’m thinking of wearing a 1 or 2-layer fingertip veil for walking down the aisle and then switch to a cute bird-cage veil for picture taking and lunch reception. For the bird cage veil, I found this Sara Gabriel one that was cute, but when I inquired, the retailer/designer said it was about $300! OK, I don’t want it THAT bad.
18" Russian veiling (white)

18 inch Russian veiling (white)

So I started to look online on how to make my own. I searched for russian and french netting and milinery suppliers. I ended up buy a yard of white Russian veiling from Housefabric.com and two pins for a total of $27 (including shipping). Now I will have to take a closer look at some pictures and replicate. Stay tuned!
