Pantone Color 2012: Tangerine Tango

The official Pantone Color for 2012 is Tangerine Tango (17-1463)! This red-ish orange color has a lot of depth and seduction; Yet it is also vibrant and energetic!  Using this color immediately gives your wedding a statement!

Here is a blast-from-the-past wedding (2010 Yvonne+Jason) that uses an orange+green palette with a neutral grey — yes 2009, 2010, 2011.. grey was the new black!  (These beautiful mini calla are actually call “Mango” – but close enough!)  In any event, what ever color you choose for your wedding, it will be fabulous!

Holiday Arrangements

I am a summer girl all the way.  I can’t think well in the cold.  I’m even cold in the summer, sometimes. But … December is my favorite month. Go figure.  Maybe it’s because it’s my birth month? Maybe it’s the changing of the seasons… (ok, wishing of the changing of the seasons for southern Californians).  I just love the  gathering of friends and family, food, festivities, and all the decorations!  Every year, right about now, I start thinking about what color the christmas tree should be, the coordinating wrapping paper to be used…(you know, playing “martha stewart”)!  I also start to remenise about the holiday arrangements I did last year, and how to make it even LOVELY-er!

Last year I had several requests for floral arrangements using fruits! Oh how I loved this challenge!    Here are some photos from 2010, delivered successfully in the pouring rain may I add! I suppose you could call these “fruit baskets”, but… much more fabulous!

This year I am offering custom Holiday Arrangements again!
Requirements for Holiday orders:

  • orders must be placed at least 1 week in advanced
  • orders need to be accompanied by any detail you have in mind for the arrangement, otherwise your arrangement will be up to … the floral designer, me! Details like..
      1. type of occasion/holiday
      2. recipient’s style (colors, flowers, other elements; ie. fruits, folliage)
      3. arrangement budget
      4. delivery date/address
  • to place order or inquire further, contact me via email (signaturekevents@yahoo.com) or phone (818) 625-5752.  I will contact you to finalize the specifications of your LOVELY order!

Due to limitations at this time, I will only be able to take orders with delivery locations between San Diego to Orange County, California.  Thank you!

Let the holiday festivities (and shopping) begin!  Happy Wednesday!

Wedding: Christine+Brian

I had the pleasure of working with Christine and Brian on their October wedding, not to mention a great ensamble of vendors.  They are a total DIY couple and I heart all the details of this wedding, invites, from menus, scrabble signage, dessert labels, and the mini desserts (all baked by the bride herself! Wow.). For the florals, Christine had purchased various vases, containers, and decorative items for the centerpieces, so I came up with ideas on how we could use it with the flowers.  Christine’s floral requests were:  succulents, texture, and any seasonal flowers using the color palete of eggplant, plum, and leaf green. Here’s the end result!  (Photography by: Sarina Love Photography)

Congratulations you two! Wishing you only the best! Thank you for allowing me to share in your special day!<3

Wedding: April+Josh

Now a days, most everything can be all done electronically. Even planning a wedding with your florist!  April is the simple modern bride. We communicated via email, pictures, links, etc. for her wedding floral details months before and up until THE DAY. I am so thankful that my clients entrust me (without ever meeting me) with one of their most important elements of their wedding – flowers.  Here are some beautiful photos of April+Josh on their DAY. (all photos provided by Winnie Ng of Cotton Love Studios)

This last photo was taken from my iphone as I was standing behind April. She hugged her sister right before walking down the aisle with her father. I was the only one there to capture this precious photo. Her sister said:  “OK, don’t cry!”  I think she was convincing herself! So cute.

B H L D N – Anthropologie’s Bridal Line

It’s been about 4 months since Anthropologie launched their wedding line, BHLDN (short for “beholden”) , and I’ve been visiting the site every so often for inspiration and to keep up with new product offerings.

They offer jewelry, headpieces, intimates, shoes, bridesmaid dresses, bridal gowns, cover-ups, and even 2nd dresses –  you know, to change into, for the evening party!  Items are offered exclusively on-line, but very soon (Aug. 18, 2011 to be exact) their first store is opening in Houston, TX!

Here’s my review:

  • Bride Dresses: 15 total wedding gowns ranging from $600 – 4000.  Although I like some of the unique vintage styles, I think some of these dresses are priced high. I think if you were to spend $4000 on a dress, you could get your ultimate dream designer label gown. But its fun to browse to narrow down your likes/dislikes in a dress!
  • Bridesmaid Dresses: I’m not excited about their selection of BM dresses here.  Since my personal style for bridesmaids is the less traditional, non-bridesmaidy look, I think the every-day dresses available at Anthropologie (not BHLDN) could be used as bridesmaid dresses and then some! If you’re looking for a more
  • Intimates: They have a pretty cute selection of under garments – lots of lace and sheers.  Check it out.
  • Bridal Shoes: Average about $300. It is priced a little high but if you’re looking for bridal shoes that are not your typical bridal+ white/ivory (although there are a few of those available), check it out. They seem to have a few of the more popular colors that I’ve seen in weddings lately.. yellow (mustard), lime green, pink, purple, gold,… they even have ballet flats!  love it.
  • Jewelry: Average about $250. Pricey. A lot of the pieces could be found elsewhere for cheaper.
  • Cover-ups: A bit pricey, but cover-ups are a little hard to find, so it might be a good splurge for brides that have fall/winter weddings who’s looking for this!
  • Headpieces: Ranges from $35 – $300. Pricey. Since I love headpieces and  actually made one for my very own wedding,  I know that it takes some time and to create these beautiful pieces.   Although it probably took me longer because it was my first time and the only one I made 1, I think some pieces are worth the price… and for the effort, time, material, and worry, some of them would be worth the splurge!  If nothing else, it’s fun to look at to help visualize what type of wedding style/hair style you can do with each piece.
  • Accessories: gloves, belts, clutches. Not much selection. The gloves are pretty unique, but the rest you could easily find elsewhere for cheaper.

Here were my favs:

Love Boat Bridal Salon – Trunk Show

This past weekend I joined Tina Li of In The Clouds Events at the Love Boat Bridal Salon!  Met lots of brides with exceptional taste in dresses! Some of designer Mori Lee and Christina Wu’s dresses were available at the Trunk Show.   Here’s our little table in the shop!  Thanks to all the brides that stopped and smelled the flowers! ;)

A bouquet of Spray Roses, inspired by a Mori Lee gown style #1601

I loved zooming in on this one as this bouquet is made up of so many different roses.. and a lot of it! =)

Anthropologie – February Goodness

While in NYC for Vday this year.. I had to stop by my one of my staple clothing stores, just to look at the window display - because God knows I am already on the site daily (you know, to add to my wishlist and keep a close eye.)  ;)  By the way, I have found that “out of stock” items do come back “in stock” BUT only for a milisecond. If you add the item on your wish list in the size/color you need, you’ll know (when you check your wish list) when it available again. Maybe. But timing is everything. Here’s a snap of Anthro’s February window display in the Chelsea Market, NYC.

Window display. February 2011 - Chelsea Market, NYC

Speaking of wish lists, I was a bit sad that I didn’t grab a pair of shoes before it was gone around Christmas time; I just couldn’t justify it at the regular price. I kept thinking:  ”Doh! I should have gotten it just to avoid day dreaming about it for forever.” Maybe it was worth it. February is nearly ending now and right when I was getting over my lost love, it came back in-stock AND on SALE! It imediately went into the cart, along with some “It’s Cold Outside” leggings (on SALE too!).

"Raines Heels" Aren't they just darling! I can't wait to wear it!

DIY – Cotton Snowball Kissing Ball

It’s almost Christmas!  Well, ok we about 2 more months.  But since Target is already discounting Halloween items and stacking shelves with Christmas decor, why have a DIY winter decor blog post ?!  Here’s how to make your own hanging snowball backdrop for photos or dessert bar!

Materials Needed:
  • styrofoam balls (various sizes)
  • 1 bag of cotton balls
  • all purpose glue
  • clear or white thread (for hanging) – not pictured
  • pins (for hanging) – not pictured

Materials

Step 1: Unroll the cotton balls

Step 2: Strech the unrolled cotton ball, almost like creating a spider web decor

Step 3: Generously cover styrofoam ball using the streched cotton.

Step 4: Continue covering styrofoam ball with cotton. (TIP: It will take about 15-20 cotton balls per 4" styrofoam ball).

Step 5: Ta-Da! To hang the snowballs, insert 1 pin into top of snowball and tie string around pin. Cut string at various lengths for hanging.

Guests loved it!

You can also mix in some clear ornaments and fill them with faux snow! (Clear ornaments found at Walmart or Target). You can ALSO make mini versions of these diy tissue pom poms and mix it up!

And here’s the the homemade No-Bake Snowball Cookies to go with it!
